The Fight to Vote explores the history of women’s suffrage in New Zealand. Students learn about the social conditions that limited women’s rights, the influence of international feminist movements, the role of the WCTU, the leadership of Kate Sheppard, and the campaign that resulted in women gaining the right to vote in 1893. The Level 4 text also examines opposition to women’s suffrage and the international significance of New Zealand’s achievement.
