Description

Students read and discuss the Level 4 November 2019 School Journal article, ‘Chinese New Zealanders’, an article about Chinese migrants to Aotearoa from the 1860’s to today and the racism they have experienced from the dominant cultural framework within New Zealand and what they have done to mitigate that.

Students ‘think sustainably’ as they learn and explore deeper thinking about racism in New Zealand and why it is not only bad for the victim but also the perpetrator and society as a whole. Potential solutions and a path forward towards a more equitable society underpinned by a humanistic morality are found through discovery, discussion and application in the learning process itself as students work  sequentially working through the student project sheet.
