Description

‘Mahinga Kai Crusaders’ introduces students to some key facts and issues surrounding the disappearance of traditional Maori food gathering sites – and how that relates to gathering food today for all of us.

Students read and discuss the Level 3 School Journal article ‘Mahinga Kai Crusaders’ and then ‘think sustainably’ as they learn and explore deeper thinking about how the impacts of colonialism on our environment have affected the quality of food and places from which we can gather and harvest it naturally by sequentially working through the student project sheet. Potential solutions and a path forward are found through discovery, discussion and application in the learning process itself.
