‘Getting Closer’ introduces students about how to observe native species using the Tomtit as an example and the Orokonui Ecosanctuary near Dunedin.
Students read and discuss the Level 2 November 2016 School Journal article, ‘‘Getting Closer’’, and then ‘think sustainably’ as they learn and explore deeper thinking about protecting native species by sequentially working through the student project sheet which uses the Orokonui Ecosanctuary as its’ prime focus point. Potential solutions and a path forward are found through discovery, discussion and application in the learning process itself.
