‘The Possum Problem’ introduces students to some key facts about these introduced marsupials and the problems they have created for both our natural and economic environment.
Students read and discuss the Level 3 August 2017 School Journal article, ‘‘The Possum Problem’’, and then ‘think sustainably’ as they learn and explore deeper thinking about the impacts the decisions that led to their introduction have had on our natural and economic environment by sequentially working through the student project sheet. Potential solutions and a path forward to eliminating these introduced marsupials and why we should think carefully about the impacts our decisions have for the future are found through discovery, discussion and application in the learning process itself.
