Description
Students read and discuss the Level 2 August 2013 School Journal article, ‘Ramadan is coming’ an article about Obay from Saudi Arabia who started at Mt Cook School unable to speak English and who is preparing for the Muslim Celebration of Ramadan.
During the reading of the text students learn about Islam as a faith and how Muslims express it. Students then think sustainably as they learn and explore deeper thinking about where and why immigrants come to New Zealand and the similarities and differences they bring that enhances our society. Potential solutions and a path forward towards cultural understanding and inclusiveness are found through discovery, discussion and application in the learning process itself as students work sequentially working through the student project sheet. The activities in this lesson complement the Level 3 November 2020 article All As One.
