‘Seals’ introduces students to some key facts about these unique marine mammals and the threats they face – with an emphasis on the three species that live around the coast of New Zealand and the one occasional visitor from Antarctica.

This engaging Level 4 article explores how greenhouse gases from fossil fuels are driving Earth’s warming climate. Students discover key climate feedback loops, including water vapour, ice albedo, permafrost, and deforestation, and learn how these natural processes can accelerate climate change. The article finishes with an empowering message: while humans have contributed to climate change, we also have the ability to be part of the solution.
