Description

Backyard Chooks’ introduces students to growing their ‘eggs’ at home and the steps needed to make that happen. The same process can be inferred when examining other foods that can be grown and consumed at home.

Students read and discuss the Level 2 August 2011 School Journal article, ‘Backyard Chooks’, and then ‘think sustainably’ as they learn and explore deeper thinking about ethically sourced eggs and the impacts these decisions have on chickens, our wellbeing and the environment by sequentially working through the student project sheet. Potential solutions to alternative sources of eggs and a path forward are explored through discovery, discussion and application in the learning process itself.
