    NL2 June 2024 The Great Rat-catching Competition

The Great Rat-catching Competition introduces students to the efforts of the children of Halfmoon Bay School on Rakiura Stewart Island to reduce rat numbers and protect native wildlife. Students read and discuss the Level 2 School Journal article and then “think sustainably” as they explore how introduced predators affect ecosystems, biodiversity, and predator-free initiatives. Through discussion, inquiry, and problem-solving activities, students learn how communities can work together to protect native species and habitats.
