“Te Namu – the Nuisance Fly” introduces students to the fascinating world of New Zealand sandflies. Students read and discuss the School Journal article and explore the role sandflies play in New Zealand ecosystems. While sandflies are often viewed as pests, students learn that they are native insects that form part of complex food webs and habitats. Through inquiry, discussion, and practical activities, students develop an understanding of adaptation, life cycles, habitats, biodiversity, and the interconnectedness of living things.
