‘Living on a shoestring’ introduces students to some key ideas about the choices we make when buying grocery items – differentiating between needs and wants and the associated monetary and environmental costs behind them.
Students read and discuss the Level 3 School Journal article ‘Living on a Shoestring’ and then ‘think sustainably’ as they learn and explore deeper thinking about environmentally friendly product choices by sequentially working through the student project sheet. Potential solutions and a path forward are found through discovery, discussion and application in the learning process itself.
